Hard Day’s Night FREE PDF Pattern

Confession time. It’s been THREE years since we released our last free pattern. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

When we launched WOW, an important part of our mission was to contribute a free pattern to the sewing community at least once, ideally twice, a year. While there were many years when we met that goal, we are truly sad that we haven’t been able to fulfill it these past few years. But we are super proud of the free patterns we currently have, and they’re some of our most popular, which we also love.

So without further ado, here is the timeless inspiration for our newest free pattern. And since this song has been stuck in our heads for weeks now, it’s only fair that we pass this amazing earworm along to you. You’re welcome.

The funny thing is that neither of us can remotely remember how or why the idea for this pattern came about. ??!??!?? Turning 40 has been going really well for us by the way.

But I think we can all agree that when you love your pet, you always want them to look their best. And this tutorial will help you create a fun, interchangeable pet collar featuring stylish tie and bow tie options.

In this collage image, on the left Barkley wears the Hard Day's Night, and on the right he wears the Hard Day's Night bow tie

How cute is that?! No, not the dog! The collar! Although, Ali’s dog Barkley is indeed super cute and handsome, and since he’ll do anything for his momma, he’s always a willing model.

The fun part is that this isn’t a permanent change to your pet’s collar – the band just attaches with velcro tabs around your own collar and then you can choose to use the bow tie or tie option. You know, for all those times your pet needs to QUICKLY up their style game.

(If your eagle eyes noticed that the collar we happened to use in these pictures is holiday-themed, you’d be right. Ali owns dog collars for EVERY season.)

And our pattern includes templates for three sizes for differently-sized pups and kitties.

So now the only problem that we have is that we need one of you awesome cat-loving-readers to sew one of these up for your kitty and send them to us by email or post to your social media. I mean, we all know that cats hate it when dogs have all the fun.

Although we aren’t cat owners ourselves, so maybe we have it all wrong…

The Hard Day’s Night PDF pattern has 12 pages and over 40 color photos to help you every step of the way. You can download it in our Shop right now. Happy sewing for all of your furry friends!

FREE (!!) Winezies Tutorial

First we owe you an apology. We had every intention of releasing our next free pattern/tutorial before Thanksgiving, but we both got downed by absurdly prolonged illnesses. One of us got it at Disney, the other at preschool drop-offs and pick-ups (anyone noticing a theme here???). Anyway, onto the main event.

So what is a Winezie? A koozie for your wine bottle, of course! So now, just in time for the last-minute-holiday-gift-season, we’re sharing our great new free pattern which makes any of three different sized Winezies – a standard 750mL bottle, a magnum 1.5L bottle and a champagne bottle.

Winezies Promo

(Those of you with crack investigating skills will notice that yes, all of the corks are gone… which means that all of the actual wine in the bottles somehow went missing too. Pattern testing is hard, people!)

One of the fantastic things about the Winezie is that you only need one fat quarter to make one (or a 16″ x 16″ piece of fabric). So you can also use scraps to make a fun coordinating Winezie.

You will also need 4 elastic hair ties and 4 buttons. That’s it!

We suggest using fleece, flannel or cotton for your Winezies.

We also sewed some up in a knit, but if you decide to use a stretchy fabric, be aware that the 750mL template will actually fit a 1.5L magnum bottle.

Another fantastic thing about the Winezie is that it’s a super quick sew. We can whip one of these up in less than 30 minutes, which makes it the perfect last minute holiday gift or host/hostess gift. You can make just one, or an awesome set to give to all of those wine lovers in your life.

Winezies Group

When testing the Winezie, we found that wine bottles are not standard sizes. We modeled the templates on Barefoot wine products. We included notes at the end of the pattern to alter the templates for other bottles that are taller or narrower than Barefoot products. If your bottle is wider than Barefoot products, use a stretchy fabric to sew the Winezie.

Finally, we also didn’t “just forget” to draft a Chardonnay bottle template. Okay, here goes… deep breaths…. We. Are. Chard. Haters. There, we said it. So don’t ever expect any Chardonnay love from these ladies. LOL.

The Winezies measure approximately 10” x 3” (750mL), 11” x 4” (1.5L) and 9” x 4” (champagne).

The PDF pattern has 11 pages, 6 pattern pieces and over 20 color photos to help you every step of the way. Click here to download our FREE (!!) Winezies pattern. (You can also download it from our Craftsy shop.)

We really hope you enjoy our second free pattern. As always, send us any questions or comments, and especially send us any pictures of your finished Winezies, as we would love to share them! Happy holiday sewing!
