Death by Hobby (Or, Just a Bit Maimed)

We’ve been quiet for a few months now, and for once we have a good reason. Or at least, a real reason.

Yeahhhhh. So Courtney might have cut a piece of her index finger off with her rotary blade. No big deal. It only took a mere 9 weeks to heal. (And by heal, we mean that she only cries out in pain twice a day from the still extremely tender flesh in her fingertip.)

We’re happy to report that Courtney is currently cleaning out her sewing room so she that she can continue work on our newest creation.

On a related note, without further ado, we wanted to share a sneak peek of our newest pattern! We would like to introduce to you the Let’s Jet.

If we don’t say so ourselves, ain’t she a beaut’, Clark??

She’s a perfectly sized small messenger bag that we created as the big sister to our most popular pattern – the Gotta Go wristlet. The beautiful fabric is from the Paloma line from our awesome friends at Ink and Arrow Fabrics (part of the Quilting Treasures family).

By the way, these gorgeous images were taken by Ali during her month long trip to Africa. Courtney is spending the month alternating between feelings of extreme jealousy and missing Ali something fierce.

We plan to release the pattern this summer and we will be putting the call out for testers in the next few weeks. There’s a LOT more to see and love about this bag, so stay tuned, stay cool, and stay classy.

Preempting Your Morning After

It’s Friday night. Which means that we hope you are all out there living it up, in whatever way that means for you. For us, it used to mean long nights of drinking, talking, game playing, and movie watching. All of which was followed by interesting mornings after.

And then Courtney had kids. Womp womp.

And while those kids are pretty stinking amazing (cue the cute pic of an older sister reading to her younger sister that we all knew was coming)…

…we are now posting pattern updates on a Friday night. And listening to Peppa Pig. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Anywho, we’ve been wanting to adapt our popular Carried Away pattern for use with other fabrics.

We wrote it for duck cloth, outdoor fabric, or something of a similar weight and weave. But if you would prefer to use quilting cotton, we created an addendum that includes a revised material and cutting list as well as additional instructions to follow. So if you:

(1) Already bought that pattern? Download the addendum directly for free.

(2) Want to buy that pattern? The addendum will download automatically with your pattern purchase on Etsy or Craftsy.

The worst part of this sad Friday night of ours? We don’t have time to sew up new Carried Away’s for ourselves in these amazing quilting cotton fabrics, all from our fabulous friends at Ink & Arrow Fabrics.

I mean, seriously. If we traveled with Carried Away’s in these fabrics, the paparazzi would clearly mistake us for Ashley Judd and Amy Schumer because we would just be that amazing. Duh.

The Loyalest of Friends and the Most Dependable of Ponies

About a year ago, Aunt Ali (or Aunt “Eye-yah” as Courtney’s daughter Eva calls her) introduced Eva to “My Little Ponies,” and they quickly bonded over Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash and Nightmare Moon. Since then, the Ponies have been a constant presence in our households, so when it came time to name our newest pattern for Apple iPad and MacBook cases, the answer came to mind immediately.

New applejack

If you don’t know who this is, allow us to enlighten you. She’s Applejack, the self-described “loyalest of friends and the most dependable of ponies.” Not a bad character to name your newest pattern after, even if she looks nothing at all like the My Little Pony Applejack we all had as a kid.

1980s applejack

Our version of the Applejack is a modern, geometric case for transporting and storing your iPads and MacBooks.

It features one outer pocket, a customizable inner pocket with gusseted section for storing chargers and headphones, and a decorative strap closure.

Sweet Rebellion Sewing Challenge Begins! (And a Giveaway, Too!)

If you follow us on Instagram (@wivesofwhitewood), you know that we recently teamed up with the fantastic folks at Ink & Arrow Fabrics to showcase one of their new collections with a fun sewing challenge. Our friend Tiffany at Ink & Arrow clearly gets us because she knew we would jump at the chance as soon as we saw these fabrics.

The line is called Sweet Rebellion and is just like us – sassy and sweet. The bike chains, the bees, the skulls, the peonies – we couldn’t get enough.

So to celebrate this fun new line, we lined up 6 amazing sewers, bloggers, designers, and overall super creative women who have created some fantastic projects to share with you.

We’re kicking off this week with one of the most talented quilters around – Cindy of Live a Colorful Life. She created a beautiful, fun, and of course colorful mini-quilt using a block of her own design.
