5 Patterns, 3 Days, 2 Girls, and 1 Sewing Machine

January for us means one important thing… OUR ANNUAL SEWING RETREAT!!

Any time spent at Ali’s river house is always special, and this year we added an extra day because we committed to something new – an actual sewing retreat! We are so excited to announce that we were asked to be teachers at this year’s Virginia Consortium of Quilters bi-annual retreat in Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. We will be teaching full-day workshops for our Stowaway and Whole Shebang bag patterns, but we also offered to teach our Wine Totes, Winezies, and All Charged Up free patterns as fillers, so we knew we needed to spend a lot of time refreshing our minds about all five patterns.

We spent the first day making decisions about fabrics, notions, and then Cutting.All.The.Things.

Oh, and we went grocery shopping. SUPER important step.

And of course, beautiful sunsets are just gravy.

Day two was super productive and before lunch we had two amazing finishes – Wine Totes and All Charged Up.

Since it was a (cold, but) gorgeous day, we made sure to get out of the house and headed to historic Gloucester Virginia for a delicious lunch at LuLu Bird’s Kitchen.

After lunch, we refocused and finished out day two with another fabulous finish – Stowaway.

On our third and final day, we focused on our last two fun finishes – Winezies and Whole Shebang.

Neither of us have sewn Winezies in a while, and we remembered how nice and quick they come together, as well as how cute they are! The versions we sewed up in this sweet winter flannel would make amazing hostess or holiday gifts.

We both were a bit blown away by the beauty of this Whole Shebang after we finished – it gave us all the *heart eyes*

We both felt so rejuvenated after sewing together and being creative together for three days in one of the most peaceful places in the world. Until next year!

We’re Comin’ for Ya, 2019

Those of you who follow us on Instagram already saw some of our shenanigans from last weekend, but we wanted to make sure that all of our readers are privileged to the same suuuuuper relevant information we posted there.

So once a year, we go to Ali’s stupendous house on the river for our Wives of Whitewood retreat where we talk about our goals and plans for the year. Without our spouses, dogs, or children. It’s clearly the best part of our year.

After we enjoyed the amazing scenery, we made lists. We love lists. We may have even added things to the list just to check them off. Yeah, I’m looking at you, “7. make lists.”

In general, things were going really well. Courtney made Ali cut fabric for her since she’s still *VERY* blade-shy since cutting off part of her finger last year. #bestfriendscutfabricforfriends

But then we found the drink helmets. Enough said. (Also, who knew that drink helmets came with situational advice?!?)

And since Ali shouldn’t be the only one with embarrassing pictures, Courtney’s offering up proof of her new readers. She turned forty LESS THAN A MONTH AGO. So there’s that.

Beyond our crazy behavior, we truly do hope you’re interested in what Wives of Whitewood has in store for the coming year. We’re excited to let you know that we will release (1) a new paid pattern based upon our most popular pattern, (2) a new free pattern, and (3) a new add-on to an existing pattern. Here’s to an amazing 2019!
