Adventures in Quilting

Today we are thrilled to announce that our patterns are now for sale in our absolute favorite quilt and fabric shop in Richmond – Quilting Adventures! We’re feeling pretty bad for Santa right now, because there’s no way the poor man can compete with a gift like this.

And the cherry on top? Quilting Adventure’s buyer and sewer extraordinaire Phoebe Guider sewed one of our bags and featured it on their blog today!!! We’re not sure either one of us will ever get over the indescribable joy of seeing one of our bags out there in the world. I know, Santa, we’re not making it easy on you here.

Okay, enough about poor Santa… check out Phoebe’s amazing Tuxedo Wristlet!! The prints work so well together, and the polka dot fabric showcases the pleat panel perfectly.

So the amazing folks at Quilting Adventures recently moved their store to a beautiful new location on the super fun Lakeside Avenue shopping corridor in the Northside of Richmond. When we first met actually, we used to spend Saturdays driving around town going to consignment shops and thrift stores filling our cars with furniture and the Lakeside Avenue shops never disappointed. Sadly, our houses no longer have room for thrifted scores so we haven’t been to Lakeside in quite some time. So we’re very excited to have an excuse to shop there again… and we all know there is NO such thing as a home without room for more fabric.

Quilting Adventures Outside

Here are some shots of the inside of the store. We can never leave without buying something wonderful – they have the greatest selection of quilting fabric, especially if you like more modern prints like we do. They also sell all kinds of quilting and sewing supplies.

They also support all kinds of fabric arts. Check out this swoon-worthy wall of floss!! Neither of us do embroidery, but this wall might just make us start.

And of course they have a fabulous selection of patterns to make quilts, bags, home décor items, gifts, children’s toys, etc. And since they’re currently the only place in Richmond where you can buy our patterns, they obviously have the best selection in town. Right now, you can buy a copy of our Tuxedo Trio, Zippers Galore or Starburst pattern there.

So the next time you’re in Richmond, be sure to check them out at 6943 Lakeside Avenue. Or you can shop from anywhere at www.quiltingadventures.com.

We’re still tweaking our next free pattern and it should be ready for release really soon. Instead of keeping you all in continued suspense though, we’ve decided you’ve earned a sneak peak – enjoy!!

Speakeasy

It’s time to release the next pattern from our Fall collection! So it’s really no secret that these Wives of Whitewood would not have fared well during Prohibition. So when we thought about what we wanted to design from the raging 1920s, we decided to make a chic little wristlet that we could have sported while partying at our local speakeasy.

Speakeasy Promo

It’s a fun special occasion bag that fits just your essentials for a night out on the town.

The bag features a magnetic snap closure and includes instructions to make an optional card holder so you can bring only the cards you need.

Speakeasy can be made more luxe by adding beaded trim to feel like a modern day flapper. We bought ours at the amazing U-Fab Outlet.

For these two bags, we used coordinating fabrics from the Timeless Treasures Mosaic collection (C-8616 C-8610), and we do think the fabrics give them a timeless look.

The front is pieced together in a modern angular design that looks great in both prints and solids.

Speakeasy Solids

We also think Speakeasy would look fantastic in a special occasion fabric like satin. We have some plans to sew that up and will share pictures as soon as we’re done.

The PDF pattern has 12 pages, over 80 color photos, and 3 pattern pieces. You can buy it via instant download in our Etsy or Craftsy shops for only $9. The finished size is about 7 1/2” x 5” at the opening (6 1/2” at the widest point).

We’ll be back soon to talk about a sweet giveaway we’re participating in and then shortly after we’ll release our 1950s inspired clutch – it features a bold design that we’re really excited to show you!

Tuxedo Trio

The next pattern from our Spring 2014 collection that we’ll talk about is the Tuxedo Trio – a fun mini-collection of its own!

Tuxedo Trio

The Tuxedo Trio includes three coordinating items – a hobo, a wristlet and a wallet – all featuring a striking tuxedo pleat panel, hence the name. Cue visions of awesome 1970s prom attire (which is a super fun thing to Google, by the way)…

1975 Simplicity Pattern

We absolutely loved mixing patterns and solids in different combinations with the Tuxedo Trio. And while the hobo, wristlet, and wallet are all strong enough to stand on their own, you could also make an amazing three-piece ensemble:

So let’s look at each piece separately. First, we have the Tuxedo Hobo, which features a hidden front zipper pocket, optional inner pockets, optional keychain, zipper closure, and an adjustable strap. The Tuxedo Hobo measures 10 ¼ ” x 13” x 4 ½”.

The front features the pleated panel, and the hidden zipper pocket was made to fit your phone perfectly:

The inner pockets are customizable, and you can also see the optional keychain here:

You can also choose to quilt the outer pieces if you wish. This version has a super chic and simple diagonal pattern:

Next up is the Tuxedo Wristlet. It also features the hidden front zipper pocket and zipper closure, but has a card holder inside as well as an optional second pocket. The Tuxedo Wristlet measures 6 ½” x 8”.

The optional second inner pocket (across from the card holder below) again fits your phone perfectly:

And that front hidden zipper pocket can easily stash a small set of keys:

(And those of you with eagle eyes might be able to recognize the car brand that both W.O.W. wives drive!)

Finally we have the Tuxedo Wallet, which includes a card holder, large inner zipper pocket, and button closure. The Tuxedo Wallet measures 4 ½” x 4 ¼” folded (8 ½” unfolded).

This wallet can hold plenty of your cards:

As well as your paper bills and change:

As we mentioned earlier, this pattern is particularly well suited for the sewer who loves to mix and match fabrics. In this coordinating wristlet and wallet, we used two similar patterns and you can see what fun effects the tuxedo panel gets you!

Tuxedo Trio Wristlet and Wallet

The PDF pattern has 36 pages and includes 3 pattern pieces and over 170 color photos!! You can buy it via instant download in our Etsy shop or our Craftsy shop for only $9.

We really hope you enjoy the Tuxedo Trio. And we’re pretty sure that anyone would swoon if you gave them a three-piece coordinating set as a gift.

As usual, if you have any questions or comments about our patterns, we would be happy to hear from you. And please send us any pictures of your finished Tuxedo Trio Hobos, Wristlets or Wallets – or even better, your own Tuxedo Trio collection – because we would love to see and share them!
